#3. Model Digital-Age Work and Learning

Teachers exhibit knowledge, skills, and work processes representative of an innovative professional in a global and digital society. Teachers:

  • demonstrate fluency in technology systems and the transfer of current knowledge to new technologies and situations
  • collaborate with students, peers, parents, and community members using digital tools and resources to support student success and innovation
  • communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students, parents, and peers using a variety of digital-age media and formats
  • model and facilitate effective use of current and emerging digital tools to locate, analyze, evaluate, and use information resources to support research and learning

KinderKids' Bog

Forum Discussion #2
I chose to review the The KinderKids' Blog. I was impressed by the amount of authentic learning and technology based instruction that was taking place in a Kindergarten classroom. Maria Knee's students were actively engaged in hands-on activities that creatively incorporated the use of technology. Maria took basic skills, such as patterning, graphing and social studies, which typically would be instructed using drill and practice, and added a “21st century twist”, therefore increasing the complexity of learning that is occurring. Students are learning through social interactions, visualizations and creativity.

By creating this Blog, Maria has been able to not only incorporate technology into her classroom, she also has created a positive link between the students, staff, parents and community.

My only concern after reviewing this Blog is that it appears to be time consuming for the teacher. However, if consistently practiced as part of the curriculum and provided with the appropriate resources, this could be amazing!

Wiki Review

The wiki review Bookleads contained features that would be beneficial to me in my library. It contained an extraordinary amount of information for student and staff research, such as author websites, e book portals and librarian resources. It also contained interactive links, such as book blogs and podcasts. Students of all ages could contribute and use this wiki as a resource and/or integrated into various curriculum.
